WELCOME
New Zealand artist Susanne Kerr creates beautiful, be-jeweled works that hint at things simmering below the surface. Alluring and intricately painted, they draw the viewer in to take part on a journey of exploration into her thoughts and observations on sexuality, religion, power and control, individual and group dynamics, social politics and group behavior, to name a few. These large-scale gouache paintings on paper have been included in a various prestigious art awards, including the Wallace Art Award [2008, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015], and the NZ Painting and Printmaking Award [2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015]. In 2015 she was awarded a Merit in The New Zealand Painting and Printmaking Award, and in 2011 she was awarded the People’s Choice Award in the Wallace Art Award, as well as the Zinni Douglas Merit Award in the Walker and Hall Waiheke Art Award. In 2012 Susanne was awarded a residency on Waiheke Island and spent three-months as their resident artist. The large body of work created during this time was influenced by the permanent sculpture on the Island in public and private venues.
